Storylines

2009-2010: Birth

Lily is conceived in September 2009 when Stacey stops taking medication for her bipolar disorder, causing her to act irrationally and sleep with numerous men, including Ryan Malloy. Around the same time, she is raped by Archie Mitchell and after trying to tell ex-husband Bradley Branning, she was sectioned under the Mental Health Act. Upon Stacey's return to Walford, she and Bradley reconcile and she tells him that she is pregnant. He is overjoyed, thinking the baby is his until she says that she is 3 months pregnant, and the baby cannot be Bradley's. After admitting Archie raped her, Bradley vows to raise the child as his own but after Bradley dies, Ronnie Mitchell tells Stacey that Archie was sterile due to cancer treatment, making Stacey realize that Ryan must be the father. However, Stacey doesn't tell him and goes into labour alone but Ryan finds her and takes her to hospital. During labour, the baby is starved of oxygen, but is born healthy and is named Lily. Everyone in the square thinks that Bradley is the baby's father but Stacey tells them that he isn't but would of made a great dad. After Stacey and Lily return home from the hospital, Stacey refuses to take Lily out of the house and panics when her mother Jean does so without her knowing. However, Max Branning soon convinces Stacey to take Lily outside.

After Ryan kisses Stacey, his girlfriend Janine Butcher reveals it was for a bet, leaving Stacey upset. Disgusted by Janine's cruelty, Ryan splits with her. However, they reunite soon after and go on holiday together. When they return, the couple decide to get married. Janine's brother Ricky Butcher throws Ryan a stag party where they get drunk and bond. The next day, Ryan attends his wedding, but Janine stops the service, and admits to Ryan that she almost had an affair as she is scared of commitment. Ryan assures her that he is scared too, and the pair marry anyway. They then attend their reception at the Queen Victoria pub, where Stacey attempts to tell Ryan about his paternity to Lily. However, Janine's stepmother Pat Evans stops her from telling him, just minutes before a fire erupts in the pub. Everyone leaves safely, except for Stacey and Lily. Ryan rescues the baby and an unconscious Stacey before the pub explodes. Upon seeing her daughter unharmed, Stacey admits to Ryan he is Lily's father. Ryan goes to see Stacey in the hospital when she and Lily recover from the fire, and Stacey tells Ryan she isn't asking for anything and offers to let Ryan hold Lily, but Ryan declines and walks out and goes on honeymoon with Janine without telling her that he shares a daughter with her rival enemy.

When they return, Stacey tells Max that Ryan is Lily's father and has been acting like he does not care. Max confronts Ryan about this saying that he has a beautiful baby girl waiting to see her daddy. He then confronts Stacey saying that he wants nothing to do with his daughter. Janine discovers that Lily is Ryan's daughter and is angry about it. She phones Social Services to report Stacey for neglecting Lily but the social worker, Maria de Costa, can see that Lily is fine and notes that the allegation was false. When Stacey finds out that it was Janine, she attacks her. Ryan discovers what happened and stops Janine going to the police, saying she would not get away with it and that he would never forgive her if she got the mother of his daughter locked up in prison. On Janine's birthday, Ryan tells her he is getting her a surprise gift but she finds out that he is with Stacey, having Lily's birth certificate changed to get Ryan's name added onto it and Ryan later lies to Janine about where he was and she doesn't tell him that she knows. They attend a party at the Slaters' house and Janine kidnaps Lily, packs her and Ryan's things and they make their way to France to get Stacey out of their lives as she knows that Ryan would not agree to move to another country and leave his daughter behind. However, when Ryan finds Lily in the car, he orders Janine to stop. She does stop—on a level crossing with a train approaching and unable to restart the car. Ryan gets Lily out but Janine cannot open her door. The barriers then lower and Janine is still unable to start the car until the last second just in time for the train to miss hitting her car. Ryan insists they return Lily to her mother in Walford. Stacey has called the police telling them that her daughter is missing. Ryan takes Lily and Janine home and explains to Stacey that Janine heard Lily crying so only took Lily to look after her but Ryan promises Stacey he did not know Janine took Lily. Janine is happy that Stacey isn't letting Ryan see Lily but Ryan is devastated and he begins to miss his daughter. The next day, Janine assumes Ryan has left her but they later reconcile and agree to forget about the recent events. While Stacey and Janine are in R&R nightclub and then arrested, Ryan is left to look after Lily for the first time. He struggles at first but realizes just how much he loves his daughter. The next morning, Ryan tells Janine and Stacey he wants to be a father to Lily. Stacey does not want to let him but Ryan later agrees to pay maintenance and gets a job stealing cars for Phil Mitchell, so Stacey lets him see Lily again.

Wanting to do what's best for Lily, Ryan gets a new job as a barman at the newly refurbished Queen Vic pub, and when alone with Stacey, they kiss. However, Stacey tells Ryan to forget it happened. Stacey goes missing and Janine stops him visiting her by locking him in The Queen Victoria's walk-in fridge. Although Ryan thinks it was accidental and Janine saved him, Pat reveals it was deliberate and Janine becomes jealous over Lily. After Stacey's cousin Kat Moon allows Ryan to visit Stacey, he realizes she is planning to leave and stops her. He reveals he wants to be with Stacey, not Janine and they start an affair. Pat discovers it and tells Janine, who starts to poison Ryan with pills. Eventually he escapes the flat and Stacey finds him as he collapses. Ryan is hospitalized and when he wakes up, Janine admits to overdosing him on sedatives and says she knows about his affair. Ryan tells Janine that he is till going to be a part of Lily's life. Janine says if he loves her, he will not let her go to prison for her actions. Ryan allows Janine to believe he still loves her but then publicly declares his love for Stacey in The Queen Victoria. Janine then walks in to see them kissing. She fears she has lost him until she discovers Stacey was Archie's real killer after receiving a taped confession from Lauren Branning. Although the recording is wiped, Janine reveals the truth. Ryan wants to be with Stacey regardless and they plan to flee. However, Stacey is unsure of her feelings for Ryan and takes Lily, leaving without him. Ryan visits Janine in hospital, because she stabbed herself in an attempt to frame Stacey. Janine forgives Ryan but he is unable to forgive her so he removes her oxygen tubes and walks out as she struggles to breathe. Pat discovers this and tells Ryan to end the feud. He then gives his wedding ring to Whitney and tells her that her, Stacey and Lily are his priority.

When Janine returns to the Square, she wonders where Lily is but she soon discovers that Stacey has taken Lily away from Ryan and this is the reason Ryan came to the hospital to see her. Ryan's younger sister Whitney moves in with her. Ryan tries to convince Whitney that Janine is not her friend but to no avail. Later, Ryan tells Whitney he is leaving Walford for a short time to do some work up North but will be back soon to see her and Lily. Before he leaves, Ryan asks Kat to give Whitney a job in the Vic, which she agrees to. When Ryan returns, he is horrified to discover that his little sister has been sexually exploited by Rob Grayson. Ryan gets a phone call from Arthur Chubb, who tells him Rob has found Whitney. Ryan goes to Southend-on-Sea and tracks down Rob. They fight on the pier and they both fall into the sea. The next day, the police pull Rob's body from the sea, and Whitney thinks Ryan might be dead until he appears. Having killed Rob during the fight, realizing Whitney has told the police the entire story and fearing he will go to prison, Ryan insists that he has to leave, so they say an emotional goodbye and goes on the run, with him telling her to look after Lily when she gets back. Lauren is heartbroken to discover his departure the next day and tries to speak to Whitney by asking her if Ryan has gone to see Stacey and Lily.

2014-2019: Return

Lily returns on 13 February 2014, when she answers the door to Stacey's cousin Kat. Lily gets on well with Stacey's new boyfriend Luke Riley, although he thinks that Stacey's real name is "Jenny Smith". Kat let slip about Stacey's true identity to Luke, who throws both Stacey and Lily out of the house. After spending a week back in Albert Square, Stacey and Lily leave to spend time with Stacey's mother and Lily's grandmother, Jean in Brighton. After Stacey confesses to Archie Mitchell's murder (after she killed him because he raped her) and is sentenced to five years imprisonment, Lily is sent to live with Jean in Brighton but she returns with Jean in August, and eventually stays with Stacey's cousin Kat, her partner Alfie and Kat's son Tommy. Jean returns to Brighton when Stacey returns from prison after Jean convinces Stacey to say it was her bipolar talking and hat it wasn't her who murdered Archie. Stacey takes her mother mother's advice and once she gets out of prison, Lily refuses to spend time with her and seems to be very close with her auntie, Whitney, who is Ryan's younger sister but Lily and Stacey eventually reunite. When Lily asks about her dad, Stacey confronts Whitney about her telling Lily about Ryan without her consent as Lily is now four years old and has never seen her dad since she was a baby. Stacey bans Whitney from seeing Lily, but later reconsiders when she realizes how much Lily means to Whitney and how close their bond is.

Stacey discovers she is pregnant with Lily's brother Arthur after watching Lily perform in the community centre. She visits the doctors to check she is pregnant, explaining that she is on the pill. The doctor explains that the lithium she takes for her bipolar stops the pill from working, so there was nothing stopping her from getting pregnant. She also tells her that there is a risk to the baby if Stacey continues to take her medication, so Stacey stops. Stacey tells Martin Fowler, who she is dating, that she is pregnant. He initially suggests she get an abortion as he doesn't want anymore kids, especially so early into their relationship. Stacey argues with Martin that she wants a brother or sister for Lily and explains that she'll bring Lily and the baby up with or without him and he decides to support her and they bring up Lily together.

Even though Martin is Lily's father-figure, It was believed Arthur's dad was Martin until Stacey was told during one of her scans that she was 4 weeks more pregnant than she thought she was, meaning that she was already pregnant by the time she was dating Martin and this leads Kush Kazemi to realise that he must be the father to Stacey's baby. On his wedding day, Kush confronts Stacey demanding to know who the father is as she would want the same for Lily but she denies it's him, making up that it was someone else - even going so far as to say that she met the father in Stratford and that he had "2 arms and 2 legs, 1 of those things that you call a head", he sees through her lies and begs to know the truth. Stacey doesn't answer him, confirming that he is the father to her baby. She tells a shocked Kush that it's just DNA and doesn't mean anything and that Martin is going to be her son's father and that they will raise Lily and her brother together. Kush demands to know why he wasn't told and Stacey answers by telling him that he had made his choice when he had chosen Shabnam Masood over her and that Arthur has his family with Martin and Lily. She didn't want this to change his mind and force him to be with her. Furthermore, she didn't want to upset Shabnam because she had lost Zaair Kazemi, who was Kush and Shabnam's still born son. Stacey explains that she had to move on, admitting she must put Lily before anyone and at first her relationship with Martin was a rebound to distract her from the fact she couldn't have Kush, but it developed into a real relationship. Kush questions that Stacey would be lying to both Martin, the baby and Lily for the rest of their lives, but she argues that as soon as Martin holds the baby he'll love him and raise him as his own and he will love Lily as a daughter.

In 2015, Lily was cast as Mary in a the nativity play which took place on Christmas Eve. Stacey, Martin, Kush and Shabnam attend Lily's nativity play where Shabnam and Martin reassure Stacey. Shabnam tells Stacey that she can hold her hand for comfort. During the play, Stacey tells Martin that she needs to push and he questions how far apart her contractions are. Shabnam tells him that the baby is coming now and Martin shouts to the audience behind him to phone an ambulance. Babe Smith tells people to fetch hot water and towel. Tamwar Masood and Masood Ahmed to clear the audience and the kids out of the community centre, which they do but this worries Lily as she can't see her mummy. Martin says that they'll do it altogether, and when Stacey strains to give birth, Martin, Shabnam and Babe all grit their teeth and mimic the sounds Stacey is making to encourage her and Arthur is born, with Stacey telling Martin Lily is going to be pleased that she's a big sister and that her, Martin, Lily and the baby were going to be a proper family. Back in the pub, Carmel Kazemi questions Kush about how he can stand there knowing his son is about to be born across the road, he doesn't answer. Carmel puts her scarf on and tells him she's going over there, but Kush grabs her and stops her, telling her that his son already has a family with his parents and his sister Lily. Tina Carter comes into the Vic and announces that Stacey has given birth to a boy and everyone cheers, with The Carter's giving out free rounds to everyone to celebrate Stacey becoming a mum to a baby boy as well as Lily. Upon hearing this news, Kush runs out of the pub followed by Carmel. Back in the community centre, Shabnam congratulates Stacey telling her that "he's beautiful like his sister". At this point Kush and Carmel run in, Kush asks if everyone's ok and Martin invites Kush to come and see the baby and Kush says he says he looks like Lily. Babe tells Stacey that she'll clean the baby up for her and she takes him and asks Kush to pass a towel. Shabnam watches Kush and Carmel. Babe hands the baby to Kush, calling the baby a "bonnie little thing." Stacey then asks about Lily but Kush reassures her that Lily is safe. Shabnam also cries as she comes to the realisation that Kush is the baby's father. Stacey asks for the baby back, which Kush ignores but Shabnam tells him to give the baby back and he apologises and hands him back to Stacey as Lily is watching. A crowd of people come in to see the baby, Martin spots his daughter Bex Fowler and tells her to come and see her baby brother. Martin then goes home and tells Lily that she has a baby brother. Lily is happy although she soon becomes jealous.

Arthur was named after Martin's dad Arthur Fowler and Stacey's dad Brian Slater. Stacey is once sectioned once again and Lily is left in the care of Martin Fowler, whom has been acting as a father figure to Lily. At this time Whitney calls Ryan, who returns to Walford to try and reconnect with his daughter. However, this doesn't go according to plan when Ryan tries to kidnap her. Lily and Ryan quickly bond and Lily is happy to have her daddy back in her life but Ryan wants what's best for his daughter so he tells her he has to go away for a little while and finally decides to hand himself into the police.

After getting Lily and Arthur babysat, Martin visits Stacey in hospital, she has been drugged and restrained to stop her hurting herself or anyone else. He tells her that her mum has gone back to Brighton and she hates Martin for not looking after Stacey properly. She asks about Arthur and Lily, and Martin tells her that they are fine. During an interview with a doctor and with Shabnam present, Stacey admits that Martin isn't Arthur's father. The doctor misunderstands and asks if Stacey believes God is Arthur's father, Stacey shakes it off and explains to both the doctor and Shabnam that Kush is Arthur's father. She then apologises to Shabnam. Stacey gets upset with Martin after he brings Lily and Arthur to see her in hospital because of how upset Lily got. After Martin leaves, she writes a letter to him explaining that Arthur isn't his son, he's Kush's. Martin is devastated but forgives Stacey as she didn’t cheat, she was just already pregnant when she met him.

Martin visits Stacey and is told by her that Lily, Arthur and him are better off without her and she plans to kill herself to free them all of her. Martin argues with her and makes the decision to break Stacey out of the hospital so she can see Lily and Arthur as he thinks the hospital is making her ill. She says she can't leave but he drags her outside and they are followed by doctors who chase them out of a fire escape. Martin jumps down a ladder and begins to have a panic attack when Stacey refuses to come with him. Stacey calms him down and agrees that she won't hurt herself because she needs to live for him, Lily and Arthur. She goes back inside with the doctors and Martin apologises to Stacey's main doctor, explaining he just wanted to keep her safe. The doctor says that this is the best place for her, which Martin rebuffs, causing the doctor to get upset that there isn't enough facilities for women like Stacey due to lack of funding. Martin then goes back home to see Lily and Arthur.

In January 2016, Stacey develops a rare mental illness. known as postpartum psychosis - which causes her severe hallucinations. Stacey becomes convinced her son is actually the son of God. Stacey is soon sectioned, however, Lily is shocked and confused to see her mum's deteriorating mental state. Whitney decides to secretly call Ryan, claiming 'no child should have to see their mother in such a state'. Ryan arrives at the Vic to see Lily, who is fast asleep. Ryan is determined to be a father figure in Lily's life, however Whitney desperately tries to persuade him not to tell her he is her father. Whitney later takes Lily to the play-park to meet Ryan, where Lily tells Ryan "you ain't my daddy", however he reveals the truth to her and Lily is delighted. He then arrives at Stacey's house and Martin finds out. Ryan then threatens to take Lily away and that Martin can't do a thing a thing about it because Lily is his daughter not Martins.

After being persuaded by Martin and Whitney not to take Lily, Whitney takes him to the Vic to stay for the night after asking Lee and Nancy Carter if it'd be okay. Nancy, however, isn't happy about Ryan staying the night after hearing about him killing Rob and he overhears Nancy and Babe Smith talking about him, and he becomes suspicious. As Whitney and Lee begin to prepare Ryan a spare bed, he sees the Queen Vic's takings and decides to take his chances. He grabs the cash and makes a run for it. Whitney and Nancy soon get into a cat-fight over Ryan but after Whitney punches Nancy, the fight is broken up and Whitney returns upstairs to see Lily.

Ryan returns the following day to meet Whitney, who tells Ryan that she will be kicked out onto the street if he does not return the money. Ryan is shocked to see that the Queen Vic land-lord Mick Carter has came along with Whitney, and initially assumes the worst. Nevertheless, the trio talk about Ryan's future and he agrees the best thing to do would be to hand himself in so he can, one day, be a proper father to Lily. Ryan hands Mick his money back as Whitney says a tearful goodbye to her brother as he walks into Walford Police Station, Victoria Square.

Stacey then recovers and her and Martin look after Lily together with Arthur. Lily gets upset when Arthur gets to give his Dad a card for Father's Day but Stacey thinks she is upset because she heard her and Martin making a fuss of the baby. However, this was not the case Lily just wanted to send her Dad a card. Later she gets to phone him. Stacy and Martin then later marry and bring up Lily and Arthur together as a happy family. Lily and Arthur refer to Martin as their dad and Lily refers to her biological father as “Daddy Ryan” and Arthur refers to his biological father as “Daddy Kush”.

Kush has a heart attack and is diagnosed with Brugada syndrome. It is genetic and it may have been passed to Arthur. He tells Stacey that Arthur could die and Stacey worries and eventually takes it out on Lily after she refuses to eat her dinner. She scares Lily and when she tries to apologise she is stopped by Kush's mum from seeing Lily or Arthur. They begin to fight when Martin comes back from prison (after punching a police officer) and stops them. While Lily was at School, Kush, Arthur, Stacey and Martin attend a doctors appointment to see if Arthur is ill. After an ECG it is revealed that Arthur is high risk, but they can't do proper tests because as he is too young. When they return home, Arthur collapses and can't be woken up. It is revealed that he overdosed on Stacey's pills after taking some when she wasn't looking. Carmel insults Stacey's parenting with Lily and Arthur and decides to keep an eye on her. After a chat with Carmel, Stacey reveals that she hasn't been sleeping because she's worried Arthur might die in his sleep and doesn't know what to explain to Lily after Lily realises something is worrying Stacey. Stacey then tells Lily that Arthur is poorly and Lily then thinks that he is going to die and she will become ill too. Stacey then explains to Lily that because her and Arthur have different dads, she won't become ill. Lily then tells Stacey they both have Martin and Stacey tells Lily that Arthur's real dad is his "daddy Kush". Lily then replies "I have daddy Ryan". Whitney tells Lily that she's so lucky having two daddy's and Lily smiles. Lily then tells Stacey that Kush gave Arthur something bad but Stacey tries to reassure Lily that it wasn't on purpose.

In October 2017, Lily gets annoyed when all the attention is on Arthur and she is being ignored . She then hurts her brother and tells Arthur’s grandmother Carmel that Stacey did it, therefore Carmel calls social services who then investigates Arthur's bruises. However she realises she has made a mistake and phoned social services again. At a meal at Stacey's house, social services take Lily and Arthur away from Stacey and Martin and they given them to Carmel. She allows Stacey to see the kids and feels guilty for taking them away from her. However Lily and Arthur return to Stacey and Martin after Lily admits that she gave Arthur the bruises. Once they found out Lily was hurting Arthur, Stacey said to Martin "What do we tell the Social?- that our daughter's been knocking our son about". Martin and Stacey inform social services who speak to Lily and find out that Lily was upset because everyone was fussing over Arthur and she was being forgotten. Kush reveals to everyone that Carmel called social services and she denies it, but admits it after being interrogated by Stacey. Stacey then collapses and is rushed to hospital. She delivers her baby prematurely due to her having seizures caused by eclampsia. Carmel tries to make it up to Stacey by helping out round the house, but Stacey is still angry at her for trying to take Lily and Arthur away and triggering her seizure which led to Lily and Arthur's sister Hope Fowler being born prematurely.

Lily's sister Hope was born in October 2017. Before her birth, Stacey was having an argument with Lily about not eating her tea and to Carmel about calling social services on her. She tries to explain the situation about Lily but argument lead to Stacey fainting and falling backwards, fitting on the floor and Kush calling an ambulance. Carmel then makes sure Lily doesn't see. After arriving at hospital, Stacey is monitored by doctors and given medication to stop the seizures and bring her blood pressure down. Martin thinks about what to tell Lily. Naturally, Stacey is very worried about the baby, but is reassured by Martin that they are both fine and Lily are Arthur are also safe. Stacey and Martin are then given the news that she had an eclamptic seizure and they believe that Stacey's placenta isn't functioning properly meaning that the baby isn't getting enough oxygen and that Stacey's blood pressure is very high. After being told this information, including that they will have to keep a very close eye on Stacey, Stacey and Martin are told that Stacey is going to be prepared for delivery. Stacey challenges this by saying that it is too early Martin asks what it would mean for their baby. The doctor then explains that after birth the baby will be taken straight to intensive care. At hearing this Stacey is worried and begins to cry and Martin what this will mean for the baby and if it'll be alright and if she isn't, how will they explain it to Lily and Arthur. The doctor then explains that 90% of babies born at 32 weeks survive and there is nothing to worry about, she further explains that even though this must be difficult for them, if the baby isn't delivered then there's more risks for Stacey and the baby - it is the safest option. When Martin goes to reassure Stacey again, she begins to have another fit, this leads to Stacey being stabilised, involving fitting a tube down her throat so she can breathe. Martin asks the doctors if he can speak to Stacey, as she is unconscious, they say that "she would like that" and he explains the situation to her. At this point, a concerned Ian Beale and Kathy Beale come in to check on Stacey and Martin and tell them that Hope will be fine and will be soon returned home to Lily and Arthur. Martin informs them that Stacey is going to be given a C-section, which shocks both Ian and Kathy as Stacey was fine after the birth of Lily and Arthur. The doctor explains to them that the baby's heartbeat is slower than they'd like. Kathy asks if the baby is in danger and questions why the C-section hasn't already been performed if the baby is at risk, the doctor explains that this decision is for Stacey's welfare and make sure she is stable before the operation. Stacey's machine then starts beeping, scaring Martin, and the doctor explains that the baby is showing signs of distress, furthermore, Stacey is bleeding. They take Stacey straight to get her C-section, which Ian questions as Stacey still isn't stable. The doctor says that due to the sudden complications they can't wait any longer. Martin asks to go with Stacey, which he is told he can't, but there will be a full medical team there to deliver the baby. Martin is upset because it is in their birthing plan that he be there to see the baby, but the doctor explains that he'll be given an update as soon as possible. Michelle Fowler arrives and is told by Martin that Stacey is bleeding, Michelle Fowler then comforts him. After the C-section, the doctor comes and informs Martin that he has a baby girl, leaving Ian, Kathy, Michelle and himself delighted. When he asks if he can see her, he is told that she is in intensive care and there are tests being run on her. Martin then thinks positive and begins to think of names that Stacey would like. For example something to do with Lily's name or flowers.

When Stacey wakes up after the operation, she is reluctant to meet her daughter and blames herself for the state they are both in. She also feels that she has failed to give Martin the happy experience he wanted. Martin tries talking to Stacey about baby names, suggesting flower-themed ones (such as Ivy) so there is a link between the baby and Lily but she turns him down and says that she doesn't want to talk about names, he leaves upset. After explaining these feelings to Max, she asks a nurse to take her to see her daughter. When she arrives, she sits next to Martin and apologises for her behaviour. He accepts. She says that he is right and that their daughter needs a name, suggesting the name 'Hope' and Martin agrees. After a couple of weeks, Hope is taken home to meet her siblings Bex, Lily and Arthur.

In 2018, Lily and her siblings are in the middle of an argument between Stacey and Martin as Stacey cheated on Martin with Max. Lily along with Arthur and Hope, are taken to Brighton to go and see their grandmother Jean by Stacey because of her guilt for being unfaithful. She returns after 2 weeks after Martin tells her he wants custody of Lily, and her siblings. Stacey returns to the house and Lily runs past Bex into Martin's arm's and he gives Lily a big hug and Martin tells Bex to take Lily upstairs to play with Arthur and Hope - which she does. Stacey then implies that Martin shouldn't have access to Lily or Arthur as he is not their dad and Martin replies "I gave you everything". An angry Martin chucks Stacey out of the house and refuses her access to see her children and barricades himself inside the house with Hope, Arthur, Lily, Bex, Whitney and Tiffany inside; he tells Bex, Whitney and Tiffany that Stacey isn't allowed in the house or anywhere near the kids. The next day, Bex then offers to take Lily to school but Martin allows Lily to stay off and tells Bex that he isn't taking any chances of Stacey being any were near her. That same day, Stacey complains because she isn't able to feed Hope, and she wants to see Lily and Arthur, complaining on the phone to her cousin Kat. Stacey decides to sit on the bench outside the house and won't move until she sees her children. After another day, Bex goes outside to confront Stacey, explaining that she isn't needed as they've got it all under control but Stacey argues that her children need their mum. However, whilst this is happening Lily goes upstairs to try to comfort a crying Hope. She realises that she is hungry and hears her mother outside of the open window talking to Bex. Lily, holding Hope, leans out of the window and calls to Stacey saying "Hope's hungry, she wants you mummy". Stacey and Bex run to underneath the window after banging on the door for Martin. Lily tells Stacey, not understanding that Martin has locked her out, that Hope is hungry and that she wants her. Martin hears commotion coming from the front door where a group of people (including Kush and Robbie Jackson) are stood under the window waiting to catch Lily and Hope if they fall. Martin runs upstairs and tells Lily that they are going to see downstairs to see mummy. Martin carries Hope downstairs to see Stacey. Stacey then runs to Lily and hugs her and grabs Hope from Martin. She is glad her daughters are safe but is mad at Martin from getting distracted. Stacey then phones Ryan who plans to help Stacey by sending someone out a locksmith to change the locks on her doors. When Martin goes to work, he leaves Whitney and Tiffany to look after the kids, however Whitney allows Stacey to come in just as Martin's daughter Bex realises what Stacey is doing and shouts of her Dad, Stacey then locks all the doors in the house as the locks have been changed and tells an angry and devastated Martin that he isn't allowed to see the kids.

Stacey is seen by Michelle Fowler putting Hope and Arthur in a taxi. Michelle runs to Martin to tell him she is taking the kids. He stops the taxi by jumping in front of it, Stacey gets out of the car and Martin forbids her from taking the kids anywhere. Stacey explains that they are going to pick Lily up from school and then go back to Brighton to see Jean Walters for the weekend. He again tells her no and that she can't make decisions like that without his consent. The Ahmed's get involved after hearing Stacey and Martin argue; Arshad then tells Martin, after being told to back-off, that he won't. He accuses Stacey and Martin of abusing their children, Martin apologises and Stacey goes to pick Lily up from school. All of this is filmed by Stacey's cousin Hayley Slater. Hayley decides to flirt with Martin. When asked by Stacey who she is, she explains that she is her cousin and that Kat sent her. Martin decides that he has had enough of Stacey and sends an email to a solicitor to get custody of Hope and Arthur, however, he changes his mind and (when round Stacey's house) hacks into her email and tries to delete an email from his solicitor. Stacey catches him and after he explains himself, she calls a solicitor when he leaves. Martin spends time with Hayley and she encourages him to take Hope and Arthur longer than it was agreed with Stacey. Hayley invites Martin, Arthur and Hope to her home and makes them a dinner of nuggets, chips and jelly. She explains that she feeds this to her son, Tyler, all the time and it's fine. She starts a jelly fight with Martin. Stacey rings Martin but he ignores her calls, so, she rings the police and they arrive on Hayley's doorstep looking for Martin, Hope and Arthur. Stacey admits to Hayley later that she felt guilty at calling the police because of the look on Arthur's face after it happened, but Hayley reminds her that she shouldn't go soft - Slaters stick together. Stacey's nan Mo then comes down after changing Hope and says you can tell she’s a Slater because of how much and how quickly she’s filled her nappy. Stacey decides to let Martin see the kids after seeing how much they mean to him. Martin is invited back into the house to talk about arrangements for the kids with Stacey. He accuses her of using him to look after the kids when she wants to go out - he still believes that she is sleeping with Max. She says she isn't and explains he can have them tonight or not at all. He leaves. Stacey goes to Dot Branning's house where Martin is staying to leave the kids there as she has an appointment to get to, he says no and that he has plans.

In March 2018, Lily answers the door to an emotional Mo Harris who has arrived back in the square to see Stacey and informs her that Kat, Stacey's cousin, has died but this was just a scam as she was in a lot of debt and therefore needed five grand. However Stacey was not aware that Mo was lying. Lily then notices that Stacey is upset and in her way to school, informs Martin, who becomes extremely worried about Stacey. Lily then finds a magazine full of pictures of coffins just as Stacey walks in the room and takes it off her. Stacey then breaks the news to Lily that Kat is dead and Lily becomes upset. A couple of days later, Lily answers the door to her grandmother Jean who tells Stacey and Mo that she just spoke to Kat on the phone and she isn't dead. Stacey then tells Jean that she couldn't of spoke to Kat because she is dead. Jay Brown then donates a coffin to Stacey and Lily puts her doll inside thinking it's a bed. Jean then explains to Lily that Kat will be buried in the ground and the coffin will be tightly closed, which makes Lily scared. During the Queen Vic trying to raise money for Kat's funeral, which is been hosted by Mick and Linda Carter she arrives in the square and turns up at Stacey's door just as Jean is putting Lily and Arthur to bed. Mo then explains that she lied about Kat's death for money and the Slaters become angry. Kat then turns up at the Vic with Mo explaining what has happened and she then fakes a heart attack, which doesn't go to plan when people know she's faking. They then walk out of the Vic (now with everyone fighting) and return home to Jean who is babysitting Lily and her siblings. After that, the Slaters become the most hated family on the square but the hatred soon turns to Max when he returns to the square with his new wife Rainie and his granddaughter Abi. When Kat needs her washing done but has no money, she goes to see Martin and asks to use his washer to wash the kids' clothes and takes Lily along with her and tells Lily to act cute. Lily puts on a pet lip for Martin and he agrees to let them use his washer. He then pulls out one of Kat's tops and she tells him that it's Arthur's and he uses it for painting. Lily and Martin look at each other and laugh, especially when Martin pulls out a bra and says to Kat "I suppose this is Arthur's an all". Lily laughs and Kat tells Lily there going home but Martin tells Kat that Lily can stay with him for the day which she does. After realising they are both still in love with each other, Martin and Stacey give their relationship another go and Martin moves back into the house.

Since the Slater Family house is a bit over crowded, Martin gets annoyed with everyone. He then gets ready to go in the shower but realises Tiffany is in it. When Martin asks her if she is done, she replies "in washing my hair". Martin then comes down stairs and Tiffany comes out the shower, just as Mo runs up the stairs to use the bathroom. When the Bathroom is finally free, Martin goes in the shower but is disturbed when Jean walks in. She then runs down stairs and Martin goes after her. Jean runs into the kitchen where everyone is and Martin explains what has just happened. Tiffany laughs, as does everyone but Jean says "To be fair Martin, I didn't see much". Everyone laughs again and Kat replies "Poor Stacey". Martin goes to turn away and Kat pulls down his towel, which is covering his body. Everyone screams and Tiffany covers her eyes but Stacey grabs the cloth and puts it over Tiffany's eyes. Martin goes up stairs to resume his shower and get ready. When he comes down stairs into the Kitchen he spots Lily on Tiffany's iPad and tells her she should play outside and get some air in her lungs because she looks pasty. A few minutes later, Lily comes downstairs tanned as Tiffany covered her in fake tan because Martin said she looked pasty. Martin then promises to take Lily to the pictures after he is been to work but later gets robbed. Lily over hears Martin talking to the rest of the family about it and decides to make her own movie.

Jean then begins to take Hope, Lily and Arthur to church, hoping to convince Lily to get christened. However once Jean confronts Stacey about this, Stacey disagrees. Jean then decides to see Martin and Kush to see how they would feel about having the children christened. She asks Kush if he would like to see Arthur christened but Kush replies saying that he is a Muslim. Jean then asks Martin but he says that he isn't really religious and doesn't know how Stacey would feel about having Hope christened. Jean then mentions it to Stacey about having Lily christened and when Stacey asks Lily about this, she says she doesn't want to have one. Martin then begins to see how much a christening would mean to Jean after Jean confides in him that it would be the perfect idea for a big family gathering. Martin agrees as long as Jean manages to talk Stacey round. However Stacey tells her that she has three kids and she ain't treating one different from the rest butt Jean talks her round and eventually, Stacey agrees. Jean shows Stacey the dress she wore for her christening and she smiles. On the day of Hope's christening, Martin is drunk after a lads night out for his birthday with Kush and Robbie. The start of the day turns out to be a disaster when no body can find Hope's christening dress. Stacey picks Kat as hopes godmother and Martin picks Robbie as her godfather. Kat then goes a wall and tries to phone her husband Alfie so she can talk to her kids. Hayley then discovers that Hope's christening dress is inside the towel on her head and takes it to the church. With Kat being missing, Stacey needs to decide on a godmother for Hope and suggests Mo but Martin says her doesn't want Mo to be a godmother to his daughter and everybody laughs. Tiffany then says she will do it but Bex says she is to young. The vicar then says that these decisions can not be rushed just as Hayley walks in the room. Hayley is then forces to get Hope changed into her christening dress and Jean talks her round into becoming Hope's godmother. Hope is about to be christened when Kat walks in the room. Hayley then hands over Hope to Kat and walks off. Jean then goes after her and Hayley confides in her that she is pregnant.

Kim Fox and Howie Danes then come over, and the three agree that whatever Kim wants they're not doing, but when Amy sees that Kim wants the three to hang out with Denzel, Amy takes an interest, feeling attracted to him. Kim says that Howie and Denzel have been playing games too much so she needs Amy to play with Denzel for a bit, and Howie says she means hang out. The two then leave the kids and Lily says they're going to get it on, and Denzel is disgusted and asks if she had to make him picture that, making Amy force a laugh. Lily then suggests to Amy that she knows she fancies Denzel. Later at the playground, Denzel says that Walford is boring and Amy agrees with him, and then asks why he's here and Denzel tells her it's because his mum went to Ibiza with her “saddo” mates, and Amy tells her that her mum went there all the time. Lily then says they're going on holidays this afternoon and that Stacey keeps texting her to come and pack. Denzel then suggest getting something to eat, and when the kids put their money together they can't afford anything. Amy says she knows somewhere they can get all the food they want for free and asks the others if they're in, and they all agree. The teens then go to Walford East, and Lily asks if it'll work, and Amy says if she's going to be a baby she can go home. Amy says it's a victimless crime as Bobby Beale can just cook more for the people that ordered, but Tommy says he isn't stealing and Denzel tells him to keep lookout. Amy then phones the delivery driver asking him to add ketchup to the order they're stealing, and then Amy, Lily and Denzel steal the burgers from the bike and are chased by Bobby, but they outrun him. Kheerat challenges Martin to a best out of three, but Stacey tells him they're going for a walk. Lily then looks at her phone, to see a photo of Amy's legs that Denzel had taken back in Walford had been posted on social media. Martin says he doesn't think she's ill anymore but he can't be sure which is why Stacey is trying to talk to her. Lily asks Martin if they'll be bringing Jean home, but Martin tells her he's unsure as Jean is hiding from the people she's upset. Lily says she doesn't want her to hide away, and that if she gets bipolar one day she doesn't want to hide away either. Martin says that Jean would appreciate hearing that. Lily then follows Stacey to Jean's caravan, but Stacey asks her to give them a minute. Lily says she's not a child, and Stacey says she knows that she's not but Martin is and asks her to go make sure everything's okay. Lily ignores her and asks Jean why she's hiding away like this, telling Jean she's told at school to be open about mental health issues. Stacey says she's got a point but Lily says that for her whole life Stacey never mentioned bipolar and that she had to find out from Shirley she might have it. Lily then says that even if she does have it, she doesn't look forward to hiding away in a caravan before storming off. Jean tells Stacey that Lily gets her temper from Stacey, and Stacey says she gets it from Jean. The two then share a cup of tea and Stacey says that Lily is right. Jean tells Stacey it's not embarrassment, but shame that's stopping her from going home to Walford. Jean then laughs, saying she was about to ask Stacey if she saw Daniel out in the water at Southend and the two both begin laughing, with Jean saying that when you're in a bipolar manic phase everything feels so real and that she felt so high and lifted. Jean admits to Stacey she hated her for spoiling it, but she knew she was right. Jean apologies to Stacey and Stacey says it's okay. When Stacey takes Jean's hand, she compliments her nails and Jean says they were a present from the Wendy's. Jean asks how Harvey is, but Stacey says she hasn't really seen him. Jean then admits she can't come him and she doesn’t know how she can look everyone in the eye again. Jean later visits Lily, Stacey and Martin at their caravan, and Stacey asks if Mo actually washes her clothes. Stacey then tells Jean they're leaving soon, upsetting her. Martin then tells her that him and Lily were talking and if Lily did get bipolar and did something embarrassing, what Jean would tell her to do, and Martin says she thinks she knows what Jean would say. Lily then takes Jean's hand. Lily and Jean share a goodbye hug, and Stacey tells Martin she's going to stay at the caravan park with Jean until she's ready to return to Walford.

Martin then takes Lily to the salon, and apologised to Howie for blaming his son. Howie accepts the apology and Lily asks Denise if she can see Amy, and she says yes. Linda asks where she got the drugs from, and Lily says they were Jada's that Stuart had dumped on her. Lily then apologises to Denzel and makes Martin do the same.
