Summary[]

Michelle, Pauline and Arthur have separated and are scouring the streets of Southend showing pictures of Mark to everyone they see. It is a cold damp day and they are looking miserable and discouraged but trudge ahead.

Pauline receives some money in the post and recognises the handwriting on the envelope as Mark's. The postmark is from Southend-On-Sea, so she, Arthur and Michelle travel there to look for Mark. When they arrive at the train station they unknowingly just miss him as he greets a woman, Ingrid, and her two children, John and Melanie. The Fowlers spend all day looking for Mark, and in the end decide to stay overnight in a B&B so that they can continue the search the next day.

Debbie removes her engagement ring as her engagement is still a secret. She is later attacked by two muggers on roller boots, who take her handbag containing the ring. DS Quick tries to get her to identify the two male assailants, but she cannot remember much about them.

Hannah visits Tony, saying that Neville hit Cassie a bit too hard and blames Tony for not being stern with her previously as she is now misbehaving. Hannah tells Tony that Cassie should be privately educated as Neville can afford it.
