Summary[]
After a day on the warpath, Pauline takes matters into her own hands. Pat reels from Roy's unexpected decision. Terry and Janine advertise their new letting business venture.
Both Dot and the police are doubtful when he says Mark pushed him, but decide he must be telling the truth. Garry sees a blonde woman out of the house. As they come down the stairs Mark catches them, and Garry shoves her out of the door. He is just trying to explain himself to Mark when Lynne turns up, asking who the woman who just left the house was. Garry blames Mark. Martin goes in to the launderette and tries to apologise to his mum about lying to her. She is furious and not only tells him that she doesn't want to speak to him, but also that she wants him to stay living at Mark's and not in her house. It's Steven's first day at his new school, and it doesn't get off to a good start when he discovers that his school uniform is second-hand and far too big for him. Laura gets him a consolation fry-up in the café, but Ian is furious when he catches them in there. Garry's young woman hails Charlie's cab as she heads out of the Square. As they get stuck in the market he points out 'love's young dream'. She sees Garry and Lynne kissing. She blurts out, 'he said he was single'. Later Charlie heads over to the Arches and demands that Garry explain all. Once again he fobs it off on Mark. Roy apologises to Pat for standing her up, he suggests they have a drink together that day to make up. Later he phones her up and asks if they can make it more private. He invites her to dinner round at his house. The police find Mark and question him about Nick's accident. Mark denies everything, even the spiking of the drink. Mark realises he needs someone to corroborate his story and sends the policemen on a wild goose chase in search of Mick. Meanwhile, Mark heads round to the cab office to speak to Mick himself. Mick did not see anything, and cannot be sure what happened but Mark assures him that he spiked the drink, he wanted to scare Nick, but he did not push him. Mick remains unsure about what to do. When Jim takes some clothes into the launderette, Pauline apologises to him. She admits that Martin has told her everything, and that she should not have been so quick to judge. Jim says it's Sonia she should be apologising to. Laura meets a man in the fish and chip shop to discuss buying it. All is going extremely well, but she's not sure how much she ought to offer, and persuades the man to say how much he would expect. When he suggests two and a half thousand pounds, she is shocked and runs out of the shop. The police finally track down Mick at the cab office, and start to question him. He is clearly uncomfortable, and still unsure what to do. He tells them that Nick fell, and when they ask if Mark could have pushed him, he makes his mind up and categorically states that Mark was nowhere near him, and couldn't have done so. Sonia rushes into the kitchen to find Pauline there with Jim. Pauline tries to make peace, but Sonia's having none of it. When Pauline mentions her regret that Chloe's been given away, the two of them end up having a screaming row and Sonia throws her out of the house. Pauline talks to Eddie about the situation. She is upset that Chloe has been given away, and that she'll never get to see her. She thinks it's all too late for her to do anything, but Eddie suggests she speaks to a solicitor. When Pat arrives at Roy's for dinner, he is completely charming. Everything goes smoothly, and she is quickly feeling completely at home. She asks Roy what he's thinking, and he tells her that he loves her and wants her, but that he can't forget what happened and could never trust her again, so they must proceed with a divorce. Jim comforts Sonia who is still convinced that she has done the right thing about Chloe. The last thing that Chloe needs is Pauline. Pauline catches up with Sonia in the street. Sonia is horrified when Pauline announces that she is going to fight to get Chloe back to live with the Fowlers. The police tell Mark that Mick's evidence has got him off the hook. He heads straight for the hospital to 'finish it once and for all'. As Mark warns Nick that next time he'll finish him off properly, Nick swears revenge. |
