After failed attempts to find the cash, he returned to The Square owing Phil £10k. This is not the only problem to face Dexter though, with the fresh news that his Dad was in need of an immediate kidney transplant. Having watched his Dad collapse on the street, Dexter was adamant he would help, and and after a test, found he was a match.
Not wanting him to donate his kidney, both Ava and Sam were reluctant for him to agree. Following some father and son bonding time, it looked as if they had no choice in the matter. However, the operation didn’t go too well for poor old Dexter - as soon after the procedure was finished, he lost consciousness. Much to the relief of his family and friends though, Dexter managed to pull through.
So when his 21st birthday came around, Dexter had plenty to celebrate; he finally had both parents by his side, all his friends and he even managed to bag himself a lady, get brushed off and bag himself another one - all in one night. He didn't even mind when his Dad had to leave the party early to work away for the weekend. Why would he mind - Sam was coming back after all, right? Wrong! Ava later revealed that Sam was gone, for good. Without knowing the reason why, Dexter blamed himself for his dad deserting him yet again. But Ava soon put him straight. She had asked Sam to leave. With his dad gone and his mum's betrayal, Dexter moved in with Cora.
On New Years Day 2015, Dexter moved to Newcastle to live with his mother Ava. He has not been seen or heard from since.
